Mary Jo O’Gara’s current work includes oil paintings of the Midwestern landscape, as well as floral still life. Her process involves extensive photo taking on location, then immediate, reactive work in the studio, trying to capture the light and form of that first perceptual moment. She paints alla prima, which is wet-into-wet paint, preferably in one session.
