The opening of WING is a dream come true, and it insures that the Chicago Printmakers Collaborative will continue to serve the neighborhood and the community of artists it sustains well into the future, even as I fully pass the Director baton (and my former CPC studio space) to our very capable Co-Director Lauren Steinert in early summer. WING will have its own programming and hours, but I will remain committed to spreading the gospel of fine art printmaking through artist salons, master classes, process demonstrations, and open gallery hours, coordinating events in tandem with CPC.
WING came to life with the vision of two amazing architects (Michael Silver and Pete Nicholas), GC Neil Corcoran, and the City of Chicago, who awarded my project a Community Development Grant, which will bring a much needed artistic and cultural boost to the streetscape on our stretch of North Lincoln Avenue, which will soon be the gateway to LANA (Lincoln Ave North Arts District). While you’re here, check out Oscar Joyo’s gorgeous new mural “LANA LOVE/ LOVE LANA” on the building just south of us!
I’m still nesting and arranging twigs, but I look forward to celebrating with the CPC community, neighbors, fellow artists and organizations and seeing old and new friends on the 22nd! – Deborah
What used to be the CPC driveway became a pile of dirt, which then became a crater, which got filled up with a foundation and lots of steel and concrete and drywall and wood and eventually turned into 4883 North Lincoln Avenue, where I’m now nesting. I’ve filled WING STUDIO up with art and an astounding array of art supplies that I’ve managed to scavenge from 35 years of making prints, paintings, sculpture, glass, installations and objects. I look forward to hosting appointments and community events in the space in late March!
