Call for Artists – True Colors: Expressive Landscape Paintings

(Featured Image: Nina Weiss landscape)

The Grove Gallery in Evanston, IL is seeking Contemporary Landscape paintings that reflect artists’ unique perspectives. Color is an expressive tool which illustrates emotional depth and subjective responses. We are looking for Painterly Landscapes with evidence of brush strokes, texture, and bold colors that push beyond green. Rather than copying nature, contemporary artists respond to it through Impressionistic mark making, subjective color and abstract shapes. With the advent of the camera in the 19th century, painters began inventing forms and interpreting scenes rather than striving for photorealism. Expressionistic color is an evocative tool that conveys the essence of a place, whether it is real or imagined. How do you use color to represent your true emotional response to nature?

Exhibition Dates: September/October 2025

Deadline: 08.22.2025
