Cathi Schwalbe and Indira Johnson invite you to join them in Ripples for Peace, a participatory public art project honoring the International Day of Peace.
They believe peace begins with a single action—like a pebble dropped into water, its ripples can grow and inspire change far beyond the original moment.
What does Peace mean to you? Ripples for Peace invites individuals of all ages to reflect on this question, respond, and create. Blank flags will be provided—canvas for your thoughts, hopes, and visions for a more peaceful world. Come write or draw on a flag individually or with others, and contribute to a collective call for peace.
You can be mailed a flag or you can join others at group workshops at
South Asia Institute, August 9, 1-2:30 pm or the Chicago Cultural Center Learning Lab, September 12 and 13, 12-2 pm.
Then, bring your flag and your friends to the Ten Thousand Ripples site at Diversey and DuSable Lake Shore Drive, where your flag will join with flags from participants from around the world. The flags will encircle the emerging Buddhas and will ripple with all our voices.
Date: Sunday, September 21, 2025
Time: 11-2pm
Location: East side of DuSable Lake Shore Drive, at the circle of 9 Emerging Buddhas (Diversey & LSD)
Let’s make ripples that matter. Let’s imagine peace—together.
