Bill Bartelt Watercolor Workshop Feb. 22

Announcing the Saturday, Feb. 22 Watercolor Workshop:   “Drawing and Painting Brush Up”

We can always use some “brushing up” on the fundamentals of good painting!  So in this session, we will put the focus on our drawing skills, including elements of value, light and shadow, perspective, and composition.  I will provide a still-life of familiar items and I’ll help you create some quick sketches that stand alone as good drawings.

After you’ve created drawings you’re happy with, the next step will be to turn them into painting studies, by adding watercolor brush work to the sketches.  I’ll also talk a little about the table-top still-life paintings of French Impressionist Paul Cezanne, and show some examples of his work to inspire us, and show how simple things can be turned into simple, lovely studies:

I’ll be demonstrating with a# 2 pencil on sketch paper, and with a 1” flat brush and a # 10 and # 4 round. Bring some 8x 10” watercolor paper (I strongly recommend Arches), watercolor in tubes (Winsor-Newton or Cotman colors), a #2 pencil and sketch paper, and some blue painters tape.  I provide painting boards, water vessels, and sponges.

The class will start at 1pm and go to 4:15.  The tuition is $50, payable at the beginning of class by cash, check, or Zelle.  ALL LEVELS OF DRAWING AND PAINTING SKILLS ARE WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED!

Please let me know ASAP if you’d like to come. See you on the table top!
