Jazz Institute of Chicago’s Fourth Annual Dear Jazz Art Exhibition & Concert

The Jazz Institute of Chicago invites artists to submit work for the 2024 edition of its annual art exhibition, Dear Jazz. This showcase celebrates the rich heritage, spirit, and future of jazz, one of Chicago’s most influential cultural movements.
Dear Jazz explores the intimate relationship between jazz music and visual art, inviting artists to reflect on how jazz influences emotions, storytelling, and cultural identity. We welcome submissions that reflect personal connections to jazz, its history, or its modern-day impact.
This open call is for artists at all stages of their careers, working in 2D any medium. We encourage submissions from artists whose work resonates with the themes of rhythm, improvisation, innovation, and collaboration that are at the heart of jazz.
Along with your following and the general public, the potential audience for this exhibition will include 14,000 JIC email subscribers, nearly 50,000 social media followers, and Fulton Street Collective’s subscribers and followers. The commission rate is 70% for the artist with 10% going to the not-for-profit Jazz Institute of Chicago.
Submission Guidelines:
- Media: We accept all forms of 2D visual art, including painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, and digital art.
- Number of Submissions: Artists may submit up to 3 original works for consideration.
- Submission Format: Digital images (JPEG or PNG, high resolution) of the artwork must be uploaded through our online submission form.
- Bio and Artist Statement: Include a brief bio and statement (max. 300 words) explaining how your work connects to the theme Dear Jazz.
- Deadline for Submissions: October 15, 2024
- Exhibition Dates: November 8th & 9th with possible extension.
