Imaginarium: Paintings by Jennifer Cronin brings together two series of paintings that both explore the power of imagination and the magic that hides in plain sight.
While working as an artist, Jennifer also spent her fair share of time working in customer service. For 14 years, she worked alongside some of the kindest, smartest, and most compassionate individuals that she’s met in her life. They all learned ways to make it through the day in a capitalist machine, while also working to hold onto their spark of humanity. These paintings show a glimpse of what they held onto to get through the day: their hopes, dreams, and musings that lie beneath the surface and make us who we are.
Later on in her artistic journey, Jennifer wanted to make work in defiance of the bleakness of this world. Colorful swaths of paint quietly descend into our everyday landscapes. A prismatic orb invites us to view the world through a more colorful lens. All of this work comes together to illustrate the beauty of our imagination and the resilience of the human spirit.
Imaginarium is presented by Elephant Room Gallery, and is currently on display at The Blackstone Hotel located in Chicago’s South Loop. A reception will be held at the Blackstone Hotel Thursday, June 30th from 5:30 – 7:30pm. RSVP and get more info at the link below.
