“ It’s rare that I leave the city, but recently I had the joy of visiting a small Michigan town, and looking up at the night sky. Night is almost as common as day, and I forget how many stars are hiding behind the city sky. Looking up at a sky bursting with stars butting up against an endlessly dark Lake Michigan filled me with such an electric energy. I realize how huge the universe is, how dark it is, and how small we are. And it’s not scary or sad to me, it’s thrilling. I brought this feeling with me in my newest work, illustrating moments of cosmic mystery and excitement in everyday landscapes.”
