I use personal photographs as source material for my encaustic paintings and explore the play between abstraction and representation. I have also used embedded photographs on rice paper as part of my design. I love being able to do free form combinations of silkscreen elements both under and over the surface of the painting. My more recent work includes forest imagery and reductive features of bedrock in both the ink jet prints and the silkscreen elements. After completing the painting with encaustic, I often add the silkscreen as the final layer. The translucent qualities of encaustic are enhanced by using these techniques.
