Three of the artist’s map drawings are now in the collection of the Newberry Library in Chicago. U.S.Army Corp of Engineers Mississippi River Charts #90, 91, and 92. The Newberry houses an amazing collection of maps form ancient times to contemporary. (Acrylic and ink on Mississippi River Navigational Charts, 19.5 x 14inches, 2013)

This month Watkins received an Illinois Arts Council Creative Projects grant to complete, design, and print an artist’s book-in-progress entitled Notebook of Notes. Thoughts, quotes, and sketches, primarily on environmental issues, kept over many years from many sources: readings, podcasts, documentaries, and conversations. On Instagram @melwatkin.
