Nicole Beck has received a site-specific public art commission from the Illinois Capital Development Board for The Phillip J. Rock Center and School for the Deaf Blind in Glen Ellyn, IL
The graphic here was created in collaboration with Beck’s cgi specialist Chris Tedin and the final work will be a collaborative effort specially adapted for this unique environment in tandem with the invested partners and Nicole’s subcontracted fabricator Vector Custom Fabricating.
Located between the canopied entrance and the outdoor playground, students, staff, visitors & family may utilize the ADA-compliant sculpture with gabion bench for play, respite and to greet visitors & transition departures. A braille plate will adorn the work with the message “Kindness is the language that the deaf can hear and the blind can see,” -Mark Twain.
