Call for Submissions – Deadline: July 8
Exhibition dates: August 31 – October 31
PERSIST and Reimagine is sponsored by the National Women’s Caucus for Art-Midwest Region. This online exhibition, viewable, here at Women’s Work Online Art Gallery.
We invite work in all media that explores the concepts of persisting under challenging conditions and reimagining the shape of things to come. Work touching on ecological, cultural, and political themes is encouraged. The theme is open to interpretation, but our emphasis is on persistence in positive, courageous ways and in reimagining evidence of human caring and a better future for the Earth. This call is open to all current and new Midwest members of the Women’s Caucus for Art with no entry fee required. Please contact your chapter for an entry code.
The call is also open to women-identified and non-binary nonmembers who may apply with an entry fee of $10 for up to three artworks. Entrants should reside in Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Indiana, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Ohio.
Persisting is our first task. What aspects of our lives are allowing us to maintain clarity and optimism during this crisis?
Once liberated from the pandemic, how will we impact society and government? If we reimagine, reconceive, and redefine, what goals might we see? Can we visualize justice in the economic sphere and liberty in the political sphere? What would a people’s democracy look like? Equilibrium between the government and the people it governs; harmony based on the higher principle of justice? Free expression, an independent press, and a population not kept in a shameful condition by a privileged minority? What do you see?
