
REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS
Public art honoring the legacy of Nathaniel and Charlotte Morgan Organized by the Nathaniel Morgan Memorial Committee and the Dubuque Museum of Art
The Nathaniel Morgan Memorial Committee (NMMC), in partnership with the Dubuque Museum of Art (DuMA), seeks to commission a work of public art from a qualified artist inspired by the story of Nathaniel and Charlotte Morgan to be installed by September 6, 2028 on the new Dubuque Museum of Art campus.
Eligibility:
Artists 18 years and older residing and legally able to work in the United States. Finalists will have a demonstrated record of public commissions of comparable scale and budget to this project. Finalists will demonstrate an understanding of the Nathaniel Morgan story.
Budget:
The selected artist will receive $100,000 for the conception, fabrication, and installation of the work including all fees, insurance, shipping/transportation, and site prep. Electricity will be available at the site.
Location:
The work will have a designated space within the Education Garden on the new Dubuque Museum of Art campus, projected to be completed by the end of 2027.
Project Timeline:
- Request for qualifications opens: July 15, 2025
- Submission deadline: September 15, 2025 by 5:00pm central time
- Notification of finalists: December 15, 2025
- Finalist presentations: week of February 2, 2026
- Anticipated project announcement: March 2026
- Opening day: September 6, 2028
