The yellow glove series focuses on the blurring of lines between perception and reality. Elements of juxtaposition and symbolism help set forth each image’s story. Light and dark interlace to set the tone for each piece while abandoned settings help to personalize how the subject feels inside compared to how she looks outside. The yellow gloves can represent many things, but they literally act a sort of shield, protecting her from having to feel too much of what lies beneath the surface. Although set in the 1950’s, universal and relevant themes are addressed through the work including “traditional” gender roles, the deterioration of marriage, depression, abuse, and sexuality.
