This winter, the Spurlock Museum of World Cultures at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign will host Drug Addiction: Real People, Real Stories – Illinois, an INTO LIGHT Project exhibition that remembers loved ones lost to substance use disorder through hand-drawn portraits and personal narratives. Illinois families who have lost a loved one to substance use disorder are invited to submit a story and image for consideration. There is no fee to participate. The exhibition is limited to 30 submissions, accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Submissions are now open and will close November 1, 2026, or sooner if all spots are filled. At the close of the exhibition, each family will receive their loved one’s original framed portrait as a gift. The exhibition will be on view at the Spurlock Museum of World Cultures, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, 600 S. Gregory, Urbana, IL, from February 9 to June 30, 2027.
