The Women Painting Women Exhibition

(Featured Image: Jennifer Cronin, Untitled No.1, (Customer Service) Oil on Canvas, 60” x 30”)

Jennifer Cronin Painting

Back in 2013, I created a self-portrait that was inspired by my time working in customer service.  I didn’t know at the time that this single self-portrait would lead to an entire series of portraits of my co-workers.  I wanted to honor these customer service workers as people and show a glimpse of what we hold onto to get through the day: our hopes, dreams, and musings that lie beneath the surface and make us who we are.  The full series can be viewed here.

This painting will be part of the group exhibition Women Painting Women.

The Women Painting Women Exhibition expands upon our collective identities as figurative artists. In this exhibition of figure paintings, we challenge the male gaze by exploring alternative topics such as our individual selfhood, archetypical figures and Surreal depictions of the human form. Our focus on our own authentic, complex bodies provides a vehicle for change and elevates our position as artists.

Artists: Jennifer Cronin, Ellen Holtzblatt, Joanna Pinsky, Mary Porterfield, Nancy Rosen, and Eleanor Spiess-Ferris.

HERstory at Viridian Gallery: Jennifer Cronin

(Somewhere Familiar, – 13.77 Billion Years from Now, Acrylic on canvas, 20” x 30”)

Somewhere Familiar, ~ 13.77 Billion Years from Now is a recent painting, using paintly experimentation alongside realism to explore the magic and beauty of everyday spaces.  I’m thrilled that this painting is on its way to Viridian Artists, a gallery located in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City.  I’m excited and grateful for this opportunity to show in New York for the first time.

HERstory is a group exhibition dedicated to the experiences, viewpoints, and history of women. Historically, women’s contributions have too often been overlooked, and in recent years, hard-won rights have been rolled back. Artwork in this exhibition reflects on these realities, past and present.
