The exhibition features fifty-two artists, celebrates diverse perspectives during the Latino Festival of the Arts. It invites viewers to reflect on the personal journeys that have shaped their lives.
Cartographies of Belonging
Mapping Roots, Identity, and Healing
Creating Inner Compass became a two year meditative journey inside myself, providing a place for me to connect to the essence of who I am. The twelve foot drawing evolves from what’s hidden deep inside of me and inside the world around us. The process brings paper and textiles woven together seamlessly reflecting different aspects of life’s journey coming together- the drawing’s edges suggest the future. When a drawing comes from this deep place, it grows and changes with us, grounding us and weaving in the richness of the heritage that came before us. It reminds us of the importance of understanding ourselves and keeping our inner essence alive. It is this self-knowledge that creates the possibility of a future in which the world can peacefully come together.
