Request for Qualifications for Art Installation in Logan College, Carterville, IL.

CALL TO ARTISTS

The Art-in-Architecture Program of the Capital Development Board is pleased to announce a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to Illinois professional artists to create permanent original public art for John A. Logan College in Carterville, Illinois.

FINAL DEADLINE Friday, September 13, 2024 3:00 P.M.

ELIGIBILITY

These public art commissions and potential purchases are open to all professional artists, artisans, or artist-led teams that live and work in the state of Illinois.

An artist/artisan is defined as a skilled practitioner that generates designs and concepts for creative works that reflect form, beauty, and aesthetic perception. All artists on a team must be from Illinois.

Subcontractors may be used and are defined as those providing technical implementation such as construction, fabrication, and/or assembly for portions or all of a finished product under direct supervision and control of an artist.

Faculty and staff of John A. Logan College are not eligible to apply for this commission.

CONSTRUCTION PROJECT

This renovation will define the main entrance of Building C and create a public gathering space. The new lobby will expand into the footprint of the current concrete walkway and porch. The project will include a 6,250 square foot addition and approximately 2,500 square foot interior renovation.

The goal for the construction project is to improve circulation in the current congested lobby area and create an inviting space for students and visitors.

ARTWORK SITE

The Committee is interested in a suspended or wall-mounted installation(s) that will welcome students and the community into the building. The art should draw visitors into the space starting outside the building. Once inside, the piece should feel natural, airy, and “lead” people into and through the space. The art is intended to become an integral component of the wayfinding for this heavily used space.
