The Des Plaines Arts Council announces an open call for proposals for an outdoor mural to be installed on the Welkin Apartments building, located at 1425 Ellinwood St, Des Plaines, IL.
The images should address the theme of Nature. The Des Plaines Arts Council has budgeted $5,000 for this commission, to cover the costs of materials, installation, and artists fees.
The call for proposals will be open until July 6, 2026. The review of proposals and selection process is scheduled to be completed by July 31, 2026. Installation should be planned for completion by the end of September 2026.
Proposals should include detailed information about the artist(s), including sample images of the work to be installed, examples of previous work by the artist(s) that represent similar previously completed projects, complete details and information on all materials to be used, including all supplies and equipment, and any assistants who will be involved in the installation. Additional information may be requested as part of the evaluation process. The artist will be expected to furnish a Certificate of Insurance for the project listing the building owner as Additional Insured.
The space under consideration is located on the west facing exterior of the building located at 1425 Ellinwood St, Des Plaines, IL, adjacent to 669 Graceland Ave.
